A morning visit to the California Academy of Sciences to see the hatch ling chicks proved to be fun for all. Hannah wanted to know what kind of bird made each of the different eggs, and then she wanted to know which birds made each nest. The elephant bird's big egg really impressed her.

Hannah also loved passing right by the Macaw who said "Hello" to her... and she thought the red, blue and orange frogs were funny because they were supposed to be green-but they were not.

Zoe took in the sights and sounds with wide eyes, and she didn't complain at all even though she was a little over bundled for a humid, vibrant visit to the rain forest. She enjoyed the respite of the outside patio, where it was cool and quiet.
Hannah, you definitely have little-to-no interest in watching animals from behind bars, windows or fences. So far, every time we have taken you to a zoo, you pay little attention to the animals and revel in the labyrinth of strange pathways... your favorite part of going to the zoo is cruising down the paths, checking out the "nunnah" (tunnels) and inspecting other toddlers with such singular attention you could be mistaken for the chief forensics inspector on CSI: Baby watch. You showed real interest in the animals however, once we arrived at the petting zoo. You smiled from ear to ear when you got to pet a "hop-hop" (bunny) and after that you were briefly interested in ALL of the animals. You got to pet a couple of friendly "nuks" (goats) and watch the "DUKK" (ducks) paddling around in the "Woita." Birds of all kinds are your favorite, next to hop-hops. You love yelling at them, watching them peck, flit around, squawk, tweet and caw, and when they take off in flight you go bonkers with delight. Today you also tried out your first carousel. You were a good sport but were clearly uncomfortable in the strange surroundings. Perhaps next time you will have more fun on the horses... we'll be going back soon to try and catch a glimpse of the new baby gorilla...
