Hannah trying to chose between the 24 oz bone-in filet or the breast milk...
Oh, Mom, did you see the surf report this morning? I caught a sweet set off of Carmel Beach. Some real mellow rollers that just kept on being good to me. HANG TEN DOOOOOOODE. This restaurant rules!
Hannah turned 5 months old on her way to Vermont to meet Grandma Alice and the rest of Jon's extended family. She looked pretty worried about the flight, preferring her trusty 'daddy-cycle', but she made the ~10 hour journey without much trouble at all. We feel lucky indeed!
She also uttered her first word that morning - Mama!! (Ok, so it was more like mamamamama- babababrrrphfftll.... but there was definitely a bunch of MAMAs in there!)

For those few uncultured souls who have never seen Over The Top, the 1987 Oscar Winner (for best film EVER) starring Sylvester Stallone and Robert Loggia, you haven't truly lived until you have sat through all 93 minutes of arm wrestling drama. Here Hannah and her second-cousin Rowan Reeves face each other down before a physical match which rivals Lincoln Hawk's incredible forearm journey. Queue up Sammy Hagar singing "Winner Takes It All" and roll the cameras...
Three economy seats in the way-back of an American Airlines 737: $500. One Diaper changed in stinky lavatory 30,000 feet above the Rockies: 22 Cents. Two hour car ride in the "midnight special" Alamo PT Cruiser: $240. Closing eyes in first crib at 2am: Free (thanks Uncle Tom for the great loaner)! Waking up all fresh and happy to meet your other Grandmother for the first time: Awwwwwwww! Priceless. Looks like the beginning of a wonderful relationship!
"I'll have the 'Moons Over My Hammy' and coffee with plenty of milk (duh!)... and keep those refills comin' because I am NEVER sleeping again...HAHAHAAAA!!! My friend Debbie will have o.j. and the Denver Omelette. Hey E*Trade toddler: you are not so cool; any monkey can hit a button and trade stocks -- just look at my daddy. Let's see you read a real menu..oh..hmmmmmmm that paper looks tasty, I'll start with that!"
Hannah is American. That means she gets everything super-sized. When she goes hotel cribbin' she wants it all.
Here Hannah is soaking up all the serious intellectual energies at the Blue Danube Cafe on Clement Street. In the words of literary guru Jeff Vogel (who wrote the critically acclaimed masterpiece, "The Poo Bomb"), Hannah is displaying clear symptoms of "reverse colic" and is revolutionizing cafe culture by bringing back the uncritical smile. Hannah is going through periods where she tolerates (or does not tolerate) the Bjorn. But since she started taking an interest in her surroundings, she's much happier and more comfortable facing outward. Of course, this comfort can last 2 seconds, 20 minutes, or 2 hours, there is still no clear routine...
Hannah busy at work doing leglifts. She's going to have to cut back on the milkshakes if she wants to lose those rolls!
My cousin Rachael (Brown) Reeves writes:
"Rowan Buchanan Reeves was born on March 30th at 6:41 PM...after about 14 hours of labor (and they say the second one is quicker!). He weighed in at 8lbs. 12oz. and measured 21.5 inches long. Brian was there for the birth, but deployed to Iraq two weeks later. We are actually very lucky that he was there at all. He was supposed to deploy on March 7th, but his commander allowed him to stay for the birth (an act of rare generosity in the Army). Then it took him two weeks to catch a flight. The Army was only required to give him four days to stay after the birth. So, again, we lucked out with the availablilty of flights. On the 13th of April he was gone....
"Now here I am with a toddler and an infant fostering a new respect for single parents with multiple kids (those who actually do a good job at it that is...). I am also in the middle of packing to move to New Hampshire, switching Reserve units, getting ready for Sarah's wedding, applying to Plymouth State University for my Masters, and attempting to sleep at night. But, don't worry. I've also had a lot of help from my neighbors and good friends Natalia and Ron. They have a little girl Wesley's age and have been invaluable in helping me with the kids and providing moral support. Wesley also goes to part time day care in the mornings from 8-12 which frees up some of my time to get things done around here. Soon I will be in New Hampshire and be done with all of the moving prep...then I will have more time to focus on kids. And hopefully I will be starting school at PSU in July so I can finish my Masters in Education."
Rachael, congrats to you and Brian!
