Hannah's outlook on life is great! When she wants to go up, she says "Up!" and when she wants to go down... she says "Up!" Hannah is talking and pointing at everything now. She is very alert to sounds, and she will often stop what she is doing and concentrate on a siren, a motor, a power-saw or an airplane noise that is encroaching on her space. She will always identify the sound, and then look around and point, and perhaps follow up with an "I dunno" if she can't see what she hears. When we go for walks, Hannah says "Hi" a hundred times - to everyone. She keeps a watchful eye for "boits" flying and the "noon" that is often visibly hanging high above in the clear blue sky. While she has been an expert at animal sounds for months, Hannah is now able to identify animals by their names as well as their sounds. I first noticed she was making the extra connection between words and sounds when we were walking across a field a few houses down from our apartment... after Hannah heard me identify a yellow fuzzy pride of flowers as Dandelions, she went around pointing to each flower and roaring like a lion. Crouch down, sniff, point, roar, crouch down, sniff, point, roar, rinse repeat. Among Hannah's favorite books is her sign-language book with baby faces for each emotion. She knows how to make the sign for each emotion, and she loves to evoke the actual examples from us or act them out herself. When I get home from work and walk through the door, often the first thing Hannah will shout is either "ARTWORK!" or "WAKA WAKA!" meaning it is time to play with magic markers and watch the Muppets with daddy. While she is learning how to communicate more and more, Hannah has taken on more moods and attentions to reflect the diversity of her in her surroundings. She loves to kick, hit, shout "NO!" and she knows she can get different reactions from Mommy and Daddy, which interests and amuses her to no end. Artwork is great fun for Hannah because she gets to talk about colors and get a guaranteed rise out of dad when she starts munching on the tips of her magic markers. She can identify black, purple, pink, yellow, orange, blue, red, brown and gray.. and seems to shy away from identifying anything green or white. Her favorite colors to talk about are brown ("Nunn") and blue ("Boo") but she loves to say that Cookie is "boo" and Elmo is "boo" too and then give a cute little snarl and smartypants glare... Usually we can calm Hannah down by asking her to give us hugs and kisses, or do the same to her stuffed animal friends. Here Hannah lets her Hurricane winds die down for a long, sweet hug session with Elmo and Cookie.
